The popularity of outdoor living combination structures is on the rise. As we have previously discussed, the most versatile outdoor living spaces are those that marry two or more distinct structures to create an outdoor living combination space. Whether it’s for relaxing or entertaining, two or more structures built together to function as one, provide the best benefits of each to increase the time spent outdoors as well as the function of your backyard.
This is exactly what one of our most recent clients in Churubusco, IN, wanted to achieve with their fully custom designed screen porch and deck addition with finished under deck dry space and an outdoor kitchen. Designed and built to be an unfettered area in which to relax or entertain while taking in the magnificent view of their property and beyond, these homeowners created the ultimate outdoor living combination environment of their dreams.
The space includes a contoured two level deck with an integrated gas fire pit, a screened porch, an outdoor kitchen and paver patio. In addition, a set of stairs were added to the opposite side of the deck from the screened porch to access the backyard as well as an in ground pool. This new outdoor living multi-complex also enhances poolside enjoyment.
Each element of this outdoor living environment was constructed with high quality, low maintenance materials for a finished space that is not only great looking and extremely durable, but allows the homeowners to spend more time enjoying their space and less time in upkeep. Here’s a breakdown of each component and the material we used:
- The two level deck, screened porch and stairs were all built with Trex Transcend decki material in Tiki Torch, which is a high performance material that’s engineered with fade, stain, scratch and mold resistance. Coordinating TimberTech Radiance rail post sleeves with a cocktail rail top in Mountain Cedar was combined with Westbury Tuscany black aluminum rail providing a contrast in color that adds beauty, distinction, and lasting value.
- The integrated fire pit, paver patio and bar area of the outdoor kitchen were all fabricated with the UniLock pavers in the color Coffee Creek with a coordinating border for the patio. With its antiqued, tumbled finish and irregular edges, this paver mimics age-worn cobblestone that feels both classic and relaxed. An AOG Grill, side burner and fridge make this an outdoor kitchen.
- To facilitate the usage of the space beneath the raised deck for the patio and outdoor kitchen, we installed the TimberTech DrySpace underdeck drainage system along with guttering. This system collects and channels moisture from the spaces between your decking by attaching easily to the deck joists, thus creating a usable dry space under the raised deck.
- Additional materials and features include TimberTech Decklites stair riser and post lights for added ambiance and safety after dark, corrugated galvanized steel ceiling panels in porch, hidden fasteners, and a PCA aluminum screen door.
As you can see from the fully decorated zones throughout this space, the homeowners are extremely delighted with the entire structure. Whether dining alfresco in the outdoor kitchen, entertaining a crowd or enjoying quiet moments in the screened porch , this combination space has exceeded their expectations.
